Times Online

Almost all foreign journalists have been barred from Iran since June’s presidential election, rendering first-hand reporting from the country impossible.
The Times compiles its reports from a variety of sources, relying primarily on trusted and reliable Iranians inside the country who provide information at extreme personal risk. If caught, they would certainly be jailed.
We also use information from Iran’s state-controlled media, opposition and reformist websites, wire services with Iranian reporters in the country, non-governmental organisations with contacts there and video footage posted on sites such as YouTube.
We are conscious that the Government and opposition both wage propaganda campaigns. For contentious stories concerning, for example, allegations of state-sponsored rape and torture we seek corroboration in the form of photographs or reports from independent sources such as doctors and psychologists.
